Greetings to my English 708 Classmates and to others who stumble by,

What better way could there be to learning about blogs, then getting involved in using one yourself?

The main purpose of this blog is familarize future or already established ESL educators on what a blog is and how it works. Of course, by becoming more familiar, we will also have the opportunity to discuss the possible ways blogs can be incorporated into the ESL classroom, especially the ESL writing classroom.

This blog is the product of a collaborative project my partner, Mahmoud, and I created for an English Graduate Level course at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) called "Technology and Literacy." If your reading this blog and your from my class, you know exactly what project I'm talking about.

We chose blogs for project our topic because they have become a very trendy way of communicating on the internet. Unfortunately, our idea for providing ideas on how to use blogs specifically for ESL teaching has already been thought of and written about. In fact, if you google "ESL Blog" many resources for using blogs for ESL teaching and the actual blogs being used will come up. So to be a little original, we decided to focus on using blogs for teaching writing in the ESL classroom. We created a website to provide ideas, theoretical reasons, and examples of how blogs are being used. The same theoretical principles research already shown to be true about the value of peer response, electronic feedback, and second language literacy also provide the foundation to support the potential value of using blogs in the ESL writing classroom.

So, please join in on our conversation and tell us your own thoughts for using blogs in the ESL classroom for teaching writing and beyond. Feel free to ask questions and share your experiences.
